Men in 40's

Like I said, my husband is 42. He was diagnosed about 5 years ago. It started with his right hand and has moved to his right leg. He shuffles and sometimes he trips when walking. He used to be able to control the shaking, but can't anymore. It's almost unbearable for him. It's hard for him to work with the shaking. He has extreme difficulties with sleeping and is up most of the night or roaming the house. We have discussions and he tells me we didn't, which makes me think I'm crazy. At first, he took medication, but no longer does. He said it makes him sick and is hard for him to exercise when he's on the meds because it makes him dizzy. He's tried about three different kinds. He said that this disease will not kill him so the meds are really not necessary. He has also began to stutter when he's talking. I'm curious what stage you are in and what stage you think my husband is in. He's also been complaining of a back ache which he says came from exercising. He's going to a chiropractor for that. Thanks for your time.

I feel your frustration

Hi I was diagnosed at 45 with PD. I am now 48 and an fighting it well. Since my diag. I have taken up scuba diving (lifelong desire) and baught a motorcycle (perhaps crazy). I have 2 boys ages 10 and 14 and try to keep up with them. Each day is a struggle but my faith keeps me strong. Work is hard and frustrating but I continue on.

I take meds and they have worked well (Sinemet) in the past but currently am adjusting them and trying a new drug (Amantadine) to see if that will add some more relief to my symptoms. Sex thankfully has not been affected so far. Anxiety has also been a problem so I take (Citalopram) that helps with that.

I hope you have good resourses i.e. family, friends, counselors. Its best to have as many tools in your chest as possible to face this challenge.

God Bless! Wes
