Can the pressure from sinus infections be this bad?
|
Hi, I am currently going through a terrible time with a sinus infection. I had one at the beginning of the year, and now this one has been going on for a couple of months. I am currently being treated with the antibiotic Omnicef, nasonex, claritin and I alternate ibuprofen and tylenol for the pain. I bought the nasal rinse Netipot, but have not tried it yet. I just feel scared because the pressure is so intense I feel like my head is literally going to explode and I have a hard time settling down to sleep because I cannot get comfortable and I am very anxious due to these sensations. Pressure in my ears, daily terrible headaches, I can breathe through my nose fine, but feel the fluid clogging my ears, low grade fever, etc. The first round of antibiotics did not work, so they are continuing two more weeks of the Omnicef because I thought I had an allergic reaction to the Augmentin. (rash, welts on trunk of body in blotches and lines). But since going back on the Omnicef I am still having a smaller version of the rash, and no relief whatsoever. I am scheduled for a CT scan of the sinuses after my antibiotics are finished to see if there are any obstructions like nasal polyps, cyst, etc. I feel scared, my quality of life is very diminished since I can't get good sleep, my head pressure is off the charts, I am so very tired and it is hard to function. Does anyone else experience this much interference with their life due to sinus problems. And any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Kim :)

Hi Boltchick
|
I'm so sorry that you are having so many problems here. I can understand your anxiety over it. 'I go from being stuffy to then my sinuses drain and then its like gets caught up in my throat and then it tightens up in my neck area like someone is grabbing a hold of the back of my neck. So I really do understand the way that You are feeling. Have you tried any like the nasal salines.. Such as Ocean? There are a few others but I can't think of their names at the moment. I just got some of the Ocean Brand today and haven't tried it yet.. Im going to as soon as I have some supper.. Its good they have you on an Antibiotic. Hopefully the one you are on now will help You. I have heard sometimes Sinuses infections are the worse to treat.. I guess its by chance that they give you the right one the first time around. Im on Clindomyocain right now with my Wisdom tooth . IM hoping that it will clear up my sinuses too.. I hope you feel better soon!.. I know its hard when we feel like crap and then anxiety over takes us too.. Makes it worse.. I try not to think about it but .. hey.. thats easier said then done.. Oh too.. In the Womens World magazine The new one out for November 17 2008.. on Page 14.. they have a good article for people with Sinus pain.. Hopefully you can get out to get one or have someone get you one.. Probably after today they wont have it on the shelf.. I'm guessing if they haven't already.. I was to Wegmans today but I didnt happen to notice which one they had.. Feel Better !... healing hugs, Debbi~ I hope this helps some!

Hi, funny you mentioned the Ocean saline spray because I just started using it two days ago and have already noticed an improvement. :) I went to see a different dr. also, who suggested the saline rinse and a decongestant as opposed to the Claritin I was taking. The anxiety doesn't help either, but now that I saw the other dr. my fears have lessened, so that's a plus. I hope the meds for your wisdom tooth help your sinuses too! Thanks for the referral to the article in Women's World. While I am standing in the grocery store line, I will have to take a look at it. I hope you are having a good day. Thanks again, Kim

Clindamycin

Just wondering if the clindamycin worked for your sinus infection. The ENT gave me an Rx for it for my sinus infection but after the bad reaction to Ceftin afraid to take it but its been months now and i can't get rid of this darn mess. I Feel so bad, anxiety the whole nine yards. I have the ocean spray, did the nasal irrigation taking bufferin, and xanax so guess I have no choice but to give this darn antibiotic a try. Just wondering how you both are doing. Thanks, gg

it is debilitating in the extreme. I ended up trying a surgical treatment because the drugs were eventually not enough for me. but would of course hesitate to recommend until you've had scan and dr. weighs in.. i can only tell you that for me the treatment eventually made a lot of what you're describing go away. let us know that the scan shows. sidenote: i took up meditation and while it wouldn't have cured the symptons i found if did help with not thinking about the condition nonstop, or dwelling on the question of whether it will last forever. but don't think it's a cureall. (sp?) just something that helped a bit. -----+++++-----+++++-----+++++

wondering if what the ct scan showed? did they recommend surgery? or balloon sinuplasty? if it's one or the other go balloon first rather than vice versa. less invasive first. my .02
