Just a reminder that some doctors totally rely on CT scans (without contrast) to tell them the whole story of your sinus problems.
I saw an HMO ENT (ears, nose and throat) specialist who told me that he diagoses solely using a CT scan and my CT scan from the day before found nothing wrong and my scan was totally clear and perfect. During this whole time I was blowing my nose and infected mucous would swarm over the kleenex each time and I would need two kleenexes. He said he would give me a prescription to stop all that infected mucous.
I said to him--wait, show me on the CT where all that infected mucous is located. He couldn't do it and it didn't show up anywhere. It was very obvious just in observing my problem that I was having a ton of infected mucous out of my nose that was coming from my sinuses--so the diagnosis was infection in the sinuses.
I told this "specialist" that he should change his procedure and a CT scan obviously SHOULD NEVER be his sole basis for diagnosing a patient again. If anything, he should always insist on a CT with contrast or even go so far as an MRI. This "specialist" knew I was right and could not speak--as he couldn't dispute what I said. I will NEVER go back to that specialist again because it is clear he does not keep up with current research and information on ENT matters and uses machines to do his diagnosis--that's lazy and inexcusable for any doctor.
