Chronic Sinusitis - other treatments?
Hi. Longtime "lurker" (that sounds creepy) just joined. I am also a long-time chronic sinusitis sufferer, and am looking for some treatment ideas. What have folks' used (aside from MEDS!) that has worked? -------- Thanks in advance.

chronic sinusitis-other treatments?
hi all, id been having terrible sinusitis so bad, that it would go on to trigger off migraine with vomiting. anyway on thursday last week,i had to have a tooth removed.it was a upper right side molar.this tooth had part broken off when i,d been flossing my teeth. i had to have a xray of the tooth before the actual extraction was carried out,and it was found that the tooth had long and very difficult roots. well for once, luck was on my side, and the dentist managed to pull this very large molar out. thing is,on the xray it showed that the tooths roots were pressing on something to do with my sinuses.and now that the tooth is gone,im amazed at how well i can now breath through my nose. i,d had investigations up my nose with a camera (last year),and nothing was found to be wrong inside my nose. but it just goes to show that in my case, something was really wrong with my sinuses, and it wasnt all in my mind, but rather a dental problem. my advice to sinus sufferers is,..mention to the dentist that you are having sinus issues, and ask if its possible to have xrays done,to see if your teeth are pressing on things to do with the sinuses. take care all, love fran

ct scan
you need the scan. go see the ent specialist and get the scan. nothing else in the end gets you to an eventual longer-term solution. scan will tell you if you need surgery or not, or at least if it's indicated. then it's either balloon sinuplasty or endoscopic surgery. depending on your situation they'll recommend one or the other. if they only push one, then ask about the other. get dr opinion about both never just one. good luck

CT scan and balloon
CT scan is right. And of course ask your doctor. Someone sent me this link thought I'd pass it on. Balloon Sinuplasty seems like an option but I dunno any one who has had it done etc. http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/balloons/video/x7t88b_raval-on-balloon-sinuplasty_tech -------- Be Well

sinus problems
my dr mentioned its new balloon sinuplasty and good results. I too have continuous sinus problems, stuffed up , pain, feeling lousy. I keep using the neti pot but wonder if thats doing more harm? I also use nasonex, sometimes it helps.

otc anti-histimines, allergist, injections at home from allergist...you name it...never a scan. But, when I got on Pycnogenol in 1995 (powerful antioxidant) the first things to clear up were allergies/sinus/headache issues. I was the Queen on them all my life prior to 1995. Never again. I free of them. I switched over to Grapeseed Extract a year after being on Pycnogenol since it's less expensive and just as effective. Why not give Pycnogenol or Grapeseed Extract a good try. The main reason I got on it was that it "may prevent cancer" and "slows down aging".....well, I was happily surprised with the results. I've been taking this powerful antioxidant for 14 yrs this Sept. Pycnogenol/GE builds and strengthens the immune system and does so much for our overall health. If you take a bloodthinner med, then caution. THese antioxidants do clean and thin the blood. jam

Re: Sinusitis
Twenty years ago when I was still working, I had a very bad case of sinusitis. I used to use up 4 to 5 big boxes of tissue paper every day. By then I had been suffering from the problem for about 20 years. Medication that I took made me drowsy and I was worried about bad side effects if taken over a long period of time. It was then that a friend lent me a book whose title I can't quite remember but it has something to do with using food to heal sicknesses. For sinusitus I was advised to go on a grapefruit juice diet. The juice should be sugar free. I could not take anything else during the fast. I applied for leave and went on this fast. I drank grapefruit juice the whole day long. The first two days were quite bad because I felt so hungry. I was supposed to go on the fast for two weeks but after 10 days I decided to stop because my sinus problem had gone. I was supposed to go on an annual fast but it was only after 10 years that the sinus problem returned but it was quite mild. I haven't gone back to the fast because the problem is tolerable and I just love to eat!! Hope this helps someone out there.

[This Message was Edited on 06/08/2009]
