Loss of smell and taste :(

Hi everyone,
I am extremely frustrated... I have had chronic sinus problems for many years.. I have been to allergists, which say I have non-allergic rhinitus, I have been to acupuncturists, which are baffled.. I had surgery a year and a half ago too.. He found only a few polyps; however, he did find fungus in my sinus passages...
I use a pulse irrigator to flush my sinuses out.. sometimes 3 times a day...
Well, I have been sick since November. My sinuses got so severly infected and swollen that they put me on 4 different rounds of prednisone, about 5 different antibiotics after I got pneumonia and I also use steroid nasal rinses..
I had about a month of relief and it is back... TERRIBLE GREEN mucos and my nasal passages are horribly swollen.... I am back on an antibiotic and have realized that my sense of smell and sense of taste are really gone... It comes and goes... This is such a hard thing for me....
I just started to go off wheat, dairy, and anything that might be contributing to more mucous.. I really need help, sympathy, someone who understands... I AM SOOOOO EXHAUSTED FROM ALL OF THIS..... I am a First Grade teacher and this gets really old...
Does anyone have any suggestionS? I live in a terrible area with lots of agriculture and I have been told to "get out." It is a huge ordeal for my hubby to uproot our family in these tough economic days... so, I am praying for some concrete help here from fellow sinus sufferers... I FEEL LIKE A FREAK! I have doctors and acupuncturists telling me that they have never seen someone this bad.. NICE! HELP... ANYONE!!!!!!!!

sinus problems

wow I have lost my sense of smell long ago. I also have almost nonstop sinus infections. YRS ago I went to a ENT dr and he said sinuses were fine, it was allergies. He put me on polaramine allergy pill and I did g reat. Yrs later I had sinus surgery by another ent dr. Still have nonstop problems. Now my dr put me on xyzal but it keeps me awake at night quite a bit. I hear you, can't really help you as am in the same boat. She wants me to see another ENT dr as they have a new procedure, problem is I DON"T WANT ANOTHER SURGERY! There has to be a fix for this. I am also on nasonex and use a neti pot. let me know if you get some rellief from something. good luck.

About loss of smell

So, does your loss of sense of smell ever return? I can tell it is when my sinuses are severly swollen.. I also have terrible drainage down my throat and have now noticed wheezing at night.. I start coughing from the drainage and it starts this viscious cycle.. :(
I am trying to get back to a homeopathic/allergist.. He is a researching doctor that knows his stuff but is very tough to get into.. I just know that living day after day like I have a weight on my chest because of coughing from phlegm and dealing with this day in and day out is exhausting..... Someone else told me about xyzal....I have tried nasonex, and I use a pulsating nasal irrigator sometimes 3 times a day... Can you overuse these things???????????????

loss of smell

sorry I always forget to ck this board as its so slow. No my sense of smell never came back, I think it was yrs of allergies and smelling cigerette smoke from dad, then husband UGH! I don't smoke and can't stand the smell, well when I could.
The xyzal doesn't really help, the dr told me to try zrtec as I want and need one that doesn't make me drowsy or irritate the bladder, I plan to go today as I have used the xyzal for 2 wks and it hasnt really helped. I too have tons of phlegm draining in throat, stuffed up. Still using the neti pot and the nasonex. good luck to you.
