Hey Fellow Sinus'itisers! NEw MEmber, looking for support!

Hi all,

29 year old male from up north in Canada here. Im glad to find an active board with people talking. It's always nice to get support from others. Lets face it, many of us including myself are likely hypochondriacs and like support!

The internet can be both good and bad. I hate searching jfor anything and then hearing the words CANCER, or something life threatening. But its also nice to hear others talking about symptoms that they share, and are dealing with!

Anyhow, Im a Chronic Sinusitis sufferer. Im 29, have seen 3 ENT specialists, 3 normal doctors, and my verdict was out a LONG time ago.

It started with the usual. Flonase....... Basic antibiotics..... Allergy tests

They did very little, and at times, made me feel worse. The Flonase made my nose too crusty and constantly bleeding. As well, I found it made me more anxious then ever.

Allergy tests revealed im allergic to many airborn molds, dusts, and pollutants. Not good where I live, its windy and dusty and all sorts of fun weeds and stuff!

Neti Pot - I have been taught proper usage, and have used it quite a bit in the last year, but it hasnt fixed ANYTHING.

Ive tried inhaling everything, I have tried various antibiotics , etc...

The last ditch effort, is surgery. However, where I live, the surgery waiting list is LONG (we're talking over 1 year) so I have been patient and hope it will help things!!!

My eyes have always suffered bad when I get sinusitis. I wake up with them being very sore and tired. As well, at my work they drive me NUTS when im staring at a computer screen with the bright overhead lighting.

In the last month I have come across something new, and I am curious if any others have shared this. You know those floaters you see in your eye?!? In my left eye, they became much more prevalent (in previous years, my left eye always seemed more sore as well in heavy sinus days).

Naturally, I went to an eye doctor and explained. He did a full test, pressures, etc, and came back telling me it's "just part of the aging process" I explained a lot about my sinus issues, but he never advised he saw anything of interest.

Now I have yet to be able to chat with my ENT about this (long wait times to see him) but have any of you other sinusitis people come across this?!? My vision isnt blurry but it's like the one eye just see's these floaters much more prevelant, and they seem larger.

Im not hitting the panic button, but I have heard that inflammation in that area can affect the optic nerve and such..

Has anyone else here dealt with this, and ever gotten a straight answer from a professional?!?

Thanks for any input/feedback!

CT Scan?

Hi. Sorry to hear you are suffering. Have you looked around at some of the other threads on this board?

I posted this link elsewhere, but here it is again. It's about a Balloon Sinuplasty procedure. After getting the scan, if all still points to surgery there are two options: traditional sinus surgery (FESS) or Balloon Sinuplasty.

Balloon is newer but supposed to be less invasive, shorter recovery time, etc. Wish I had some first or even second-hand info for you. Check out the video though and BE WELL!

floaters

I'm new to the board also, not to sinus problems, 50 years. Do you get migraine headaches? Floaters are a precursor. Sinus can be a trigger. For dry eyes, try Similasan, once only in health food stores, now at your drug store since they decided that pouring mercury into your eyes was not good, and took the old Murine off the market. The new Murine imitates Similasan. Surgery helps some with certain problems, not others. I had two, and got worse. Nasonex is much less irritating, and more effective than Flonase. The best sinus product I have tried in 50 years is Sinus Buster, a natural hot pepper spray, relieves headache too. These are my personal experiences of 50 years, and may not apply to all. I speak with many sufferers and MD's, and they agree with many of my findings, especially Nasonex over Flonase or Nasalcort. Nasalcrom is now over the counter, mild, and has no dosage limit. Check your migraine situation, due to those floaters. Good luck.

I was your sinus/allergy/headache Queen all my life

did the allergist visits, the drugs, the injections in office and home...the whole 29 yards!!!! What a mess all my life and then I found Pycnogenol and the first thing that left my body was all the above health issues...I took "P" for 1 year and then talking to a health food store consultant about the price of "P",,, she said take Grapeseed Extract, it's just as effective and way less expensive. That was 13 yrs ago and still on GE all these years...no allergies/sinus/headaches and I'm 71 soon.

My story and miracle, if you want to call it that. It has been for me. jam

miracle

WOW! That's awesome. "Miracle" might be just right there!

I am much more of a holistic/natural cures person so it is always great to hear success stories like this!

Not sure what's next for me but I am intrigued by the balloon sinplasty thing. I do wonder what might have happened if I would have started w/ rinses and a neti pot a lot sooner.

Oh well can't go back I guess.

Be well.

Gemini--I just thought of something I want to mention

This just came to me and I thought I would mention it. I developed cataracts from medication--I had been taking lupus medication (anti-malarial) at a low dose that was not supposed to impact my eyes. Well, I developed cataracts from medication and they are different from cataracts due to age.

All of the nose spray prescription medications (and those medications that were prescription and are now released as over-the-counter) impact cataracts. Not many doctors know that and will continue to prescribe those nose sprays. I found it out because I asked the eye specialist.

So remember that some medications can impact your eyes (just like the lupus medication gave me medication cataracts and how the nose sprays actually impact cataracts).

I do not get floaters with migraines, but I do get them from too low blood pressure or if I am going to pass out. So floaters in my eyes for me tell me something is happening and I need to sit down/lay down and relax. Evaluate the medications you are taking. Could you substitute the simple saline only nasal spray instead of the others and that is what I do. Also, all eye exams should be done only by an opthalmalogist and not an optician. Keep harping that you have these floaters and sinus problems.

Eventually a CAT scan discovered that I have a polyp in the sinus below my eye, but they will not remove it unless it grows larger.
