Good visit with doc re: Thyroid
|
Had a good visit yesterday with my "integrative" doc and she has agreed to up my Armour. I did start upping the dose about 6 weeks ago so I'm ahead of the game. All this with the help of STTM book and my thyroid friends on realthyroidhelp.com Since I have Hashimoto's the first thing that came o ut of her mouth was Celiac Disease. Get off wheat, oats, barley, rye. Which I'm doing now diligently. I was "kinda" doing it but will stay strong and stick with the "program". She also confirmed that Hashimoto's is the main cause of HypoT. Get those antibodies tested. So many docs don't test for this. jam

in the chapter on Hashimotos

the two tests are anti-TPO and TgAb. I only had the first one and the antibodies were high enough to work on getting them down. The author writes: Since up to 95% of Hashimotos patients will have antibodies, it can be confirmed by two antibodies labs; anti-TPO and TgAb. anti-TPO attacks an enzyme normally found in yur thyroid gland called the Thyroid Peroxidase, w hich is important in thw production of thyroid hormones. TgAb attacks the key protein in the thryoid gland, the thyroglobulin, which is essential in the production of the T4 and T3 thyroid hormones. This is a synoposis on these two antibodies.

since I posted this

I've gone from 1.5 grains of Armour to 4 grains. I had been on 1.5 grains for 5+ yrs and thought I was OK. Well, have I found out different. The pain in my foot is gone as well as my rib pain. Guess the extra thyroid hormones are getting into my tissues and getting rid of the pains. Thanks to all the great folks on the realthyroidhelp.com board.
PS: No hair falling out here.

Convincing Dr
|
Jam How did you convince your Dr. to treat you according to your symptoms instead of the boodwork. I am going to my Dr. Monday and although I am on Armour thyroid I don't believe it is correct doseage even though my labs show I am in ok range. I want him to up it but what do I say to convince him? Thanks for any advice. GAlynn

GAlynn/you have to have an open minded doc

who will go with symptoms vs numbers. Thank goodness I see an "integrative" doc who is willing to listen to me and go with my needs. What I have also done over the years is up my dose on my own. I usually get 90 mg tabs in a quanity of 90 and am able to "cut off" pieces of the tab and up on my own. I've done so much reading and talking to so many people who have to do this on their own since the docs are just not up on Dr. Broda Barnes theory on "how we feel"... Do you have your latest numbers and do you want to post them and I'll look at them. If you've been on the board I mentioned you'll see how many others are dealing with this issue.
