update on thyroid testing

This idiot doctor won't run the right test. All he did was a tsh and that was normal. Oh my cholesterol is high but thats no new news to me. I really don't now what to do . We only have medi-cal ins right now and are subject to only a few doctors that will take this ins. . I went to the only one around us that would take this ins and his staff refuses to get me in to see him until Aug 21 and even that date could be changed . So the only help i'm getting from him is new cholesterol meds. and he wants a dexa scan done. It's driving me batty this so call health care ins..

High Cholesterol levels...

usually happens when one is hypO or even slightly hypO. My numbers will go up when I am this way so I have to make sure I aim the Free T3 and the Free T4 at mid ranges, at least. Don't take no for an answer when this doctor refuses to run these Free Ts. Insist on them together with any other thyroid tests of his own that he wants to run.

What was your TSH numbers anyway?

I tried to get him to run the test but he didn't feel like it was necessary . The nurse or receptionist didn't say what my TSH number was ,all she said was it was within normal range . I told her my concerns over about thyroid problem and she said that my sx. sounded a lot like Paget's disease. Her mother has paget's disease . The "nurse" just said that I need to tell all this to the doctor at my next visit. She said that I should write out my concerns before and do some research able it over the internet. I asked if I could make an appointment sooner as this is really a concerned that needs to be looked into and she said no ,I'll have to wait until my scheduled appointment.
This doctor and his office staff is terrible . It by far the worst doctors office I've ever been to . Unfortunately it the only one that I've found around here that takes this ins. .
Years ago I was dx with Hypothyroidism and before that I was hyper-thyroid when I was younger. When I was hyper thyroid it was good and bad. I had an awful time keeping any weight on . Had to eat a lot just to keep my wieght over 107 . Those were the days =).
After 22 things changed fast. Then I became hypo. My hormones went out of control and end up with a Hyst when I was 33. And now I got Hb,High Chol.,RA.OP,OA,copd,TN,PN,FM .
The weird thing is that I think that my thyroid problems set everything in motion.
I remember when my HYPO kicked into over drive and my RA just started getting worse . Back then I spent 100.00's a month on herbal cures and all they did was keep young and simi active so that I could work . I wish that I could afford to do that again and tell this "nice" doctors what to do with their pills. That would be nice. =)

Good morning daylight...!

I agree with you on this. My own undiagnosed hypO since my teenaged years, set the moton for all my other health conditions. In sense, I've had a thyroid probem since I was about 14 and I am now 46. I've been hypERthyroid since 2000 at the last birth of my child. I also hve RA, Adrenal Fatigue, undiagnosed FMS, and whatever else!

When we have a messed up hormones in our bodies, it sets the motion for everything not to work as well. When my thyroid levels are balanced, all my other health conditions get balanced as well.

Unfortunately many doctors and Endos suck. They feel the TSH is the only test to check for both hypOs and HypERs symptoms and that is not correct. the FT3 and the FT4 together with the TSH needs to be done to get the complete thyroid picture of what is going on.

I know money is tight, and if you can, I would get labs done of the FT3, FT4, and TSH through healthcheckusa. It costs $85 plus 10% off when the discount code of 12345 is used. You don't have to get a doctor to do this. So many people on other thyroid boards/forums have had to order tests this way because the old schooled (and new schooled) doctors are so far behind with keeping up of the new tests and such. Medical schools really need to keep up-to-date with everything!

{{{hugs}}} :-)

good aftermoon =)

Today has been a roller coaster ride. Our car transmission went out so we are poorer than ever before. But it nice to know that this lab is available for us when we can scrap some money together. =) But we'll get those test don't hopefully soon.
