Elliespad/have you had problems getting your Armour

I know you take 6 grains and I'm taking 3 grains in two doses. I may have to switch to Westhroid or NatureThroid if I can't get Armour soon.

I have a friend who had her thyroid removed yesterday and I know those UCLA docs will slap synthroid on her. Did you take Synthroid at first or did you doc give you Armour right away. Thanks much. jam

Problems with Armour

Sorry, just saw this post. I was put on Armour sometime in my 30's. I am now 51. I was seeing an Accupuncturist, who was an MD, and he wanted me to switch from Synthroid to Armour. I saw two immediate changes: I had not had a period for 2 years, and they promptly resumed when I switched to Armour. (And still getting them regularly at 51) The only other change was, my HORRIBLE shortness of breath went away. Never saw an improvement in energy, but was grateful for the other changes. In retrospect, I was probably not on enough Armour and was never given Iodine. I also never had Thyroid Antibodies tested until going to Fibro and Fatigue Center, and learned I also had Hoshimotos.

I've had two thyroid surgeries for Autonomous Multi Nodular Goiter. Both times my goiter was the size of an orange, but grew below my collarbone. I now have no thyroid. (Huge regret)

So, when I had my last surgery, I asked the surgeon to write me a script for my Armour, as I had used it in previous years. She gladly wrote it, even though she always wrote Synthroid.

Following this last surgery, I had a LOT of trouble taking ANY form of thyroid meds. My TSH went to 86, and I truly felt like like death was knocking. My (then) Endocriminologist told me I was in danger of dying from HYPOTHYRODISM. But every brand I tried, even at 1mg. doses caused severe allergic and/or HYPER symptoms. I DITCHED all Endos. Once I got put on Cortisol, I was able to tolerate the small doses (at that time trying Synthroid, 50 mg, their only hypoallergenic tabs, cut into crumbs ) and gradually titrated up. As soon as I added in Armour to the mix, my brain IMMEDIATELY felt better and I made the switch to just Armour, and gradually worked my way up to 6 grains. Am having a lot of problems with heart issues again, so will have to work with my online support group to get this figured out. It's possible it's time for an increase, or I am low on companion nutrients. My ferritin is very low, and I haven't been taking my Iron, also have slacked off on Potassium and Magnesium. Need to get with it here.

I had sleep problems for YEARS, which I used L-Tryptophan and B6 to let me sleep. As soon as I lost my Thyroid, my sleep has been HORRIBLE. I take enough supplements to knock out an elephant, and get maybe 3 hours of sleep.

Sorry to ramble, and yes, I am now having trouble getting my Armour filled at commercial pharmacies. I, just yesterday, picked up my Armour from my local compounding pharmacy. He still had Armour powder and made it up. My local Rite Aid said they expected to get back orders late September, let's hope. I called a few different Pharmacies, and they all were out of Armour, and told be Naturethroid was unavailable as well.

Hi Elliespad/thanks for sharing your story

you sure have been thru it with the thyroid. I'm still hanging in pretty well and work on keep ferritin levels up as I know that is important with thyroid too. I take Potassium and at least 600 mg of mag citrate or malate every day.

I had a couple nodules back in 2005 and am wondering where they are today.....ugh...

I also take Iosol iodine every day 1 drop.

Just got a supply of Westhroid from a pharm in ND but don't know how long their supply will last.

I haven't talked to my friend yet who had her thyroid removed but hoping she'll get good care...but knowing her docs it will Synthroid.

This this finds you relatively well. Take care. jam
