Recently diagnosed as hypo

I have had my doctor do a complete panel for years because of family history. About 2 months ago, my doctor found I had no thyroid function. I also have the following health problems:high blood pressure which has never been contolled well, glaucoma also in poor control, and a history of post traumatic stress relating to an auto accident.

I have had a pretty awful time of it over the past 2 months. At the time my doctor found the thyroid problem, he began changing my blood pressure medication due to intollerance. Due to rapid heart rate and was refered to a cardiologist. I had an echo and a stress test and wore an episode monitor for 21 days. All of the tests came back ok and the the cardiologist feels that the symptoms were thyroid related.

I am taking levothyroxine 25 mcg each morning. Almost all of my symptoms are either gone or getting better each day. I continue to be very troubled by two symptoms: extreme cold and extreme fatigue. These two symptoms are so bad that they are effecting my lifestyle and my ability to work. They hit with a vengence and ofter are accompanied by generalized weakness, either muscle weakness or cramping, a high level of anxiety and a cloudy thought process.

I have faith in my family doctor but wonder if I need to ask for a referal to a specialist. I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Thanks

a great site is

realthyroidhelp.com

I learned so much from those folks over there. Cold extremeties are a definite indicator of hypoT.

I've been on Armour which contains T4 and T3 since 2002 and over the last 6 months have been upping my dose thanks to the folks over there. No cold hands/feet here. There is so much to this thyroid issue and so many docs just don't know and/or don't care.

I've gotten the best help from "integrative" docs and many get great help from naturopaths. My worst help has been from endos.

Hypothyroid help

The best sites I have seen are StopTheThyroidMadness and Yahoos Thyyroidless forum. Those people will hold your hand and guide you. You don't need to be Thyroidless to go to the Yahoo Thyroidless forum. They want you to be truly WELL and AVOID thyroid nightmares they have been through.
