I would stop seeing my dad. That is emotional abuse. Perhaps, this is where some of the problem stems from. I do not know what type of meds you are on but I can tell you that I too have gained weight on meds. I guess that it is a double edge sword. Feel good mentally or physically. When your body gets used to the meds it will sometimes even out the effect. If not you may want to talk with your Dr about the effects on your weight and see if there is an alternative. Good Luck! 1/2

I'm sure it's very true meds
|
do this, BUT I don't take meds per se and I'm heavier than ever. Metabolism and lack of vigorous exercise is what has happened to me. And my gf deals with weight issues and takes no meds. Portions Portions Portions are KEY. Food intake and carbs and processed foods are a no no. Now perhaps you are a very diligent eater, but if not this is a big factor. If you drink sodas, stop. No eating after dinner is a big one. We have to keep reminding each other and that is what caring and friendship is. A toughlove thing. jam

I've known several people who gained weight on meds, including myself. Some stayed with the meds in spite of it. I wasn't willing to make that trade off. Gaining weight made me more depressed, so I didn't get the benefit from the med anyway. But that's because I had/have an eating disorder, in addition to my physical illness. So, my emotional reaction isn't typical. I'm glad my friends stayed on the meds cuz it really helped them. It's a very personal decision for us all. Good luck to ya!

Meds
|
Meds can be a love/hate relationship. They help to make you feel better, but sometimes the side effects make us feel bad. This includes the weight gain, and when it happens, we tend to beat ourselves up about it. There are things that you can do...... You can decide that sometimes with certain decisions, there is a trade off. Meds/weight gain. Or there is watching everything that you eat, and exercise. It's true, it's all about calories, calories, calories.......It's a numbers game. Calories in, and calories burned off. Whatever you decide to do, do it because it's the decision that YOU want to make, and not because someone has made rude remarks......I know your father probably meant well, but it was insensitive...Hang in there....

Weight Gain and Meds
|
I am on 14 different kinds of medications for my various conditions. I feel that the meds are the cause of me being obese. I am trying hard to lose weight and I lost 6 pounds this month, and can't wait to lose more. I am using a high fiber diet - I take fiber caplets 4 caplets 3 times a day and it fills you up and makes you not want to eat. I am so sorry your dad is abusive towards you, I would try to stay away from him.
