This is the time of year when we reflect on what we have accomplished, and what we hope to accomplish. Here at ProHealth, 2013 was a year filled with change and growth, the departure of familiar faces, and the arrival of new friends. All of this activity has been focused on making ProHealth the best online resource for patients with fibromyalgia, ME/CFS and other hard-to-treat illnesses, so we would like to share some of what has been happening at ProHealth with you.
Launching a new home page …
Our biggest project this past year was the launching of a new home page. After months of hard work, we developed a format that would be easy for patients to read, display the latest news and information, and provide essential resources for people diagnosed with fibromyalgia, CFS and ME. Getting breaking news to the community is a priority, so we have given it top billing. But new developments in research and treatment are equally important, so we have placed these articles where you can comfortably read them.
Welcoming new editors …
Our two new editors, Karen Lee Richards (in 2012) and Erica Verrillo, have revolutionized ProHealth’s newsletters. More than 38,000 new subscribers have signed up for the newsletters since last March, which is a testament to the efforts of the ProHealth editors and staff. Our FM HealthWatch editor, Karen Lee Richards, as co-founder of The National Fibromyalgia Association, brings a wealth of personal insight and expertise to ProHealth’s coverage of fibromyalgia. Karen was formerly the About specialist for fibromyalgia, and is currently lead writer for the chronic pain section on Health Central.
Erica Verrillo, our ME/CFS HealthWatch and Natural Wellness HealthWatch editor, is the author of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Treatment Guide, 2nd Edition. Her comprehensive knowledge of ME/CFS research and treatments has enhanced ProHealth’s ability to provide readers with the latest developments in the ME/CFS community, including breaking research, advocacy, conference reports, and practical coping articles written from the perspective – and with the compassion – of a long-time patient.
Creating new forums …
This year we also completely revamped our Community Boards, simultaneously expanding them and making them easier to use. With the valuable input of Cort Johnson, the founder of Phoenix Rising, our IT expert, Darshan Etz, selected and installed new Xenforo software. The forums get 9,000 unique visitors per day, making them the most lively boards on the net. Topics range from research to recipes, from labs to legal resources, and everything in between. Forums are the best place to get advice and information from other patients, so we hope you make good use of them.
Adding new products …
Over the past six months, ProHealth has expanded its product line by 50%, adding 100 new products especially designed for patients like you. Because ProHealth focuses on products that support people with FM and ME/CFS, our new line of supplements is geared toward increasing energy, supporting brain function, aiding sleep, boosting immune function, mitigating secondary infections, and much more. We have sought out high-quality supplements made by Douglas Labs, Jarrow, NOW and Source Naturals, among others, to increase the selection available to patients.
Supporting our community …
Last, but not least, ProHealth is pleased to have supported the efforts of the researchers, advocates, and clinicians who have worked so hard for the benefit of our community worldwide. The individuals who power these efforts are our heroes, and our gratitude to them is boundless. They inspire us, and give us hope for a cure.
This year ProHealth has donated a total of over $14,000 to:
