40 Members of Congress Are Supporting HHS’s CFS Advisory Committee – Now it’s Our Turn

On May 9, 2006, the CFIDS Association of America launched a lobbying campaign to secure Congressional backing for renewal of the federal CFS Advisory Committee’s charter, due to expire September 5, 2006. This 11-member Advisory Committee is responsible for advising Health & Human Services on emerging CFS-related research findings and program/research needs.

To date the campaign has enlisted the support of at least 40 members of Congress, in the form of letters to U.S. Secretary of Health Michael Leavitt, says CFIDS Association President and CEO Kim McCleary. In addition to calling for renewal of the Committee’s charter, their letters request a response to the Committee’s earlier recommendations and continued support of its work.

Now the rest of us have an opportunity to reinforce this support, from our desktops. If you reside in the home state or district of any of these Senators and Representatives (see the list below), you can fire off e-mails to thank them. As the CFIDS Association points out, “most Congressional offices receive e-mail through their Web sites, which can be found at www.house.gov.” As for the postal mail option, they add, delivery delays owing to anthrax screening are still the reality.
