Antibiotics Not Effective in Post-Lyme Syndrome (A Variant of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?)
Antibiotics do not improve cognitive symptoms of post-treatment chronic Lyme disease (PTCLD), according to the results of two randomized trials published in the June 24, 2003 issue of Neurology. The editorialist suggests that they should not be used in this condition, which may be a variant of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia: Important Similarities & Differences
Dr. Charles Shepherd writes, “In view of all the recent discussion about areas of overlap between ME, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and fibromyalgia syndrome, here are what I believe are some of the key areas of similarity and difference.”
Eunice Beck, RN, on Reaching Out and Touching Someone When You Live with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Fibromyalgia
Coping Corner columnist Eunice Beck, RN, writes, “I have written recently about pediatric CFIDS/FM. There was also a recent column talking about finding the opportunities to learn and grow because our diseases make us slow down. In a recent article in my local newspaper, I read of a great example of the unintended result of a child with CFIDS and his concern for the US troops in Iraq.” Read more about one chronically ill teen’s great reward for reaching out.

CFIDS Lobby Day 2003
Congressional Activities: Lobby Day
Personal contact from voters who care about CFIDS is the secret weapon in the CFIDS advocacy arsenal. To facilitate contact with elected officials, The CFIDS Association of America sponsors an annual Washington,D.C., Lobby Day event. This year, Lobby Day will be held September 17-18, 2003.
On Lobby Day, CFIDS advocates from around the country, including persons with CFIDS (PWCs) and their family members and friends, come together on Capitol Hill to personally educate Congress about CFIDS and ask for help in securing an improved federal response to the illness.
Lobby Day participants are trained on effective meeting strategies and provided with materials to share with elected officials so they will feel confident and prepared before their first meeting.
The registration deadline is August 1st. For more information, please visit:
