Botulinum Toxin in Pain Management of Soft Tissue Syndromes Including Fibromyalgia & Myofascial Pain Syndrome
According to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, “botulinum toxin is approved for the treatment of muscle overactivity associated with several disorders, such as dystonias. However, control of muscle spasm often results in pain relief as well. Effective relief of pain associated with myofascial pain syndrome provides a model for the use of botulinum toxin to relieve pain associated with other types of soft-tissue syndromes, such as fibromyalgia.”
A Measure of Heart Rate Variability Is Sensitive to Orthostatic Challenge in Women with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
According to researchers at the New Jersey Medical School and the University of Tokyo, the use of symptoms generated by head up tilt (HUT) is not a useful tool in identifying Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). In this study, the researchers investigated whether heart rate variability (HRV) assessed early during HUT might be useful in identifying patients with CFS.
Advice for Caregivers and Spouses of Patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia
Eunice Beck, R.N., writes, “As a caregiver of a PWC (Person with CFIDS), you may be required to fight with health care insurers, disability insurers, and physicians, so take the time to educate yourself about the illness. Not only does learning everything you can about CFIDS help you to educate others, it will help you to better understand what your loved one is facing.”

RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT: Maximum Wellness Formula
A UCLA research team has discovered that a popular health supplement and antioxidant vitamins may help prevent atherosclerosis, or blockage of the blood vessels. The findings are reported in the Jan. 13 online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
“Our findings suggest that people who take dietary supplements of L-arginine, an amino acid, and antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, might be at a lower risk for atherosclerosis and heart disease,” said Dr. Louis J. Ignarro, a 1998 Nobel laureate in medicine and UCLA professor of molecular and medical pharmacology. “This is significant because cardiovascular disease is still the No. 1 cause of death in the United States.” To read about this promising new research, click on the link below:
