CDC Offers “CFS Toolkit” for Healthcare Professionals, Information on Continuing Education Courses, and More

“To help break the cycle of frustration,” the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control has created a Web page where physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals can find a growing collection of free, printable resources to guide them in the clinical care of CFS patients. Additionally, patients might wish to bring some of these materials to their healthcare providers' attention.

As a first step, there is The CFS Toolkit – a set of six fact sheets in pdf format that physicians can review and download at

But site visitors are asked to “visit regularly for updates,” and links to other CFS-related resources for professionals include information about continuing education sponsored by the CDC – currently including a course titled “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Diagnostic & Management Challenge.”

The CFS Toolkit is designed to provide “a quick and easy-to-use resource for clinical care.” In less than 30 minutes, the CDC explains: “You will be able to review the best practices related to diagnosing and managing CFS. And you will also learn about other credible resources, ongoing CFS research, and continuing education opportunities.”

The six fact sheets are:
n CFS Overview
n Diagnosing CFS
n Managing Symptoms
n Managing Supportive Care
n Cognitive Behavioral
n Managing Activity
n Provider Resource Guide
