Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia: The Brain-Sleep Connection

Leon Chaitow writes, “A survey of over 1,000 patients with fibromyalgia (FM) and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) showed that prior to their illness fewer than 1% had disturbed sleep, whereas during their illness this rose to over 90 %.” Read more about CFS, FM, and the brain-sleep connection here:

Promoting Recovery from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: The Fifty Percent Solution

According to Dr. Wiliam Collinge, “The experts agree that lifestyle change is the foundation for recovery from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. According to Paul Cheney, M.D., this is ‘easily the most important and often the least emphasized’ part of treatment.” Learn about Dr. Collinge’s recommendations for achieving recovery from CFS.

Inflammation, Infection, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome: An Update

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disorder of gastrointestinal function for which no specific pathophysiologic mechanism is known – and from which many Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and fibromyalgia patients suffer. The growing interest of clinicians and researchers in the pathogenesis of functional gastrointestinal disorders led to several research presentations during this year’s Digestive Disease Week meeting – read about their findings and treatment recommendations here:

RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT: Methionine

Studies have shown the protective effects of methionine in animal models against mercury, lead and atrazine (an herbicide). Methionine is an essential sulfur amino acid and is listed on the FDA’s “generally regarded as safe” list. It was once used in soy-based baby formulas to provide adequate methionine nutrition for infants.

Methionine is a critical component of tissue development, growth and tissue repair for all humans – no matter what the age.

Methionine functions as an antioxidant (free radical deactivator) and helps neutralize toxins. It serves as a principal source of sulfur that the body needs to replenish daily. Sulfur is used for mucous production and detoxification. To learn more about the benefits of methionine for detoxification and more, click on the link below:
