Dental DNA offers PCR test for multiple species of Borrelia and co-infections

Dental DNA, a sophisticated lab that specializes in the detection of microbial DNA that resides in root canal teeth, cavitations, implants and other oral environments, has recently developed a test for multiple Lyme disease organisms. Called the Lyme Panel, this test uses PCR technology to detect 10 different microbes commonly found in people with Lyme disease, including: Borrelia burgdorferi, Borrelia miyamotoi, Borrelia recurrentis, Babesia divergens, Babesia duncani Babesia microti, Bartonella bacilliformis, Bartonella henselae and Bartonella Quintana.
While there are many dozens of species of each of these organisms, the Lyme Panel is useful because it covers 2-3 species of the most troublesome Lyme infections.  It may be a more affordable and convenient test for those on a budget, since the $425 price includes multiple infections, unlike some other types of lab testing, which may charge $400 or more to detect 1-2 infections. 
According to the Dental DNA website, “The test uses primers which are specific for the genes of the Borrelia burgdorferi flagella, outer surface protein A, B and C. A positive test result for any of these 4 genes indicates the presence of the Lyme organism.”
