Dr. Anthony Komaroff’s Recommendations for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Care
John W. Addington, a medical researcher, patient rights paralegal and CFS patient, writes, “Persons with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) can be thankful that Dr. Anthony Komaroff is on their side. To begin with, he is a staunch advocate of the disorder’s legitimacy. He is also a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the Senior Physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Editor-in-Chief of Harvard Health Publications. Thus, Dr. Komaroff has the right clout to influence others to accurately understand this disorder.”
Autoimmune, Neurological & Rheumatic Diseases: Role of Chronic Infections in Morbidity and Progression [Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia News]
Prof. Garth Nicolson (with Prof. Nancy Nicolson), writes, “Although the causes of autoimmune neurological diseases are for the most part unknown, the complex signs and symptoms that evolve in most patients may be due, in part, to systemic chronic infections (bacteria, viruses, fungi) in patients with an appropriate genetic background. Such infections can follow acute or chronic chemical or other insults (including heavy metal, viral, environmental, and trauma).” Such insults have the potential to suppress the immune system.
Human Herpesvirus 6 Infection and the Development of Diseases Including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Like most human herpesviruses, HHV-6 is ubiquitous and capable of establishing a lifelong, latent infection of its host. Viral reactivation in the immunocompromised host has been linked to a variety of diseases. This article discusses the major properties of HHV-6, its association with human disease, and the pathobiological significance of viral reactivation.
RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT: Coral Calcium
In order for calcium to provide significant health benefits, the body must absorb it properly. Coral Calcium has been gaining attention for its high rate of absorbability compared with other forms of calcium.
In a scientific study, researchers evaluated whether mean intestinal absorption of coral-derived calcium (incorporated into crackers) might be comparable or even superior to mean intestinal absorption of calcium carbonate-derived calcium in humans. Additionally, the magnesium content of the coral calcium-added cracker used in the study was as high as 252 mg while that of the calcium carbonate-added cracker was only 42 mg.
