This is the finding of a very thorough 2014 study on hydroxytyrosol led by Cristina Vilaplana-Pérez PhD. The study also examined hydroxytyrosol’s potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and the ability of hydroxytyrosol to protect against low-density lipoproteins (LDL, the so-called bad” cholesterol)  .
