Abstract

Over the past 15-20 years, four notable tick-borne infections have emerged in the US,
Lyme disease, human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME), human granulocytic ehrlichiosis (HGE) and babesiosis (Table). In contrast to the laboratory diagnostic procedures established for
Lyme disease, RMSF and tularemia, the laboratory diagnostic procedures for the diagnosis of HME, HGE and babesiosis are not yet standardized and continue to be revised.
