Learn How to Make Lemonade: Learning to Live with Chronic Illness

With a new year beginning, the CFIDS & Fibromyalgia Health Resource has much to look forward to. As part of its ongoing commitment to help provide funds needed for medical research, the Health Resource recently donated another $25,000 to the CFIDS Association of America. The continued goal for the Health Resource, as well as its parent company, Pro Health, is to continue making a difference in the lives of people with CFIDS, Fibromyalgia (FMS), and other health challenges.

Rich Carson, founder of the Health Resource, is more optimistic than ever going into 1997. He believes an effective treatment for CFIDS and FNIS will be found within the next year or two.

Rich was diagnosed with CFIDS in 1981, becoming totally disabled in 1987, and has since dedicated his life to finding a cause and cure for these debilitating illnesses, which he describes to be a “ball and chain” in the life of the sufferer. One of the Health Resource’s goals is to reach out to all people by offering products of uncompromising quality that researchers and patients find help ease the symptoms of CFIDS and FMS.

As a key activist and the world’s leading individual fundraiser in the CFIDS community, Rich is always pursuing advances in CFIDS research and is now working with FMS scientists to uncover the secrets of this closely related disease.

Everyone who knows Rich is undoubtedly touched by his passionate determination when it comes to tackling CFIDS. Rich will never forget the morning 16 years ago when he awoke with severe flu-like symptoms which turned out to be life changing.

As an investment specialist with a strong educational background in science and biology, Rich aggressively established relationships with researchers worldwide who were working with the disease. Rich explained, “My goal was to discover the nature of the disease that was constantly eroding the quality of my life.”

In the mid 80s, when it became clear that there were thousands, if millions, of Americans suffering from CFIDS (formerly Chronic Epstein Barr Virus) his resolve became almost an obsession. At this time Rich founded the CFIDS Health Buyers Club, now known as the CFIDS and Fibromyalgia Health Resource, to be a vehicle to make difficult to find alternative therapies available, and raise much needed funds for research.

Rich’s efforts, combined with the efforts of the Health Resource, have raised $1.95 million for CFIDS research.

Rich believes that “Ultimately you are responsible for your own health and wellness.” He suggests that “When life deals you lemons, learn how to make lemonade.”
