Letters From Our Readers – Questions and Comments 11/22/06

There’s a lot I can still do
I learned a long time ago to look at what I could do, not at what I was unable to do…I can't run but I can exercise in warm water. I can't plant a large garden anymore, but I can care for roses and other plants in pots. It's too hard to play my French horn now, but I can play my keyboard and my organ! And I'm going to start sewing again because I can't go on long walks anymore. Who says someone with Fibromyalgia has to give up all the fun things! – Pat

Kudos for the newsletter
This has to be the best yet of all of the newsletters that we have received. Wonderful, informative and full of hope, when sometimes there seems to be very little hope left. Keep up the good work – Lynn and Bill

Looking for help internationally
Why is it that most of the treatments and information on FM – in particular where to get help – is only posted for American places? I have hardly seen any of your information base outside of America. Is your site only for Americans, or is it for all? If so, why not give places outside of America, like Canada and other places, for people who also suffer from this disorder and seek help medically and financially? – Louise

Note: You bring up an excellent point. As we progress with the website’s redesign, we will make every effort to include more international information.

How do I change my newsletter choice?
Is there a way I can only receive the FM newsletter? I have no interest in the CFS information and see no need to receive it. I notice that you have split both the website and the newsletter, so I am hoping that you have a procedure where one can opt out of unnecessary e-mails. – Anon

Note: Good question. Yes, you may choose to receive only the FM newsletter, or only the CFS newsletter. To unsubscribe from the next CFS newsletter you receive, for example, scroll to the very bottom and click on “To Unsubscribe.” On the other hand, if you want to subscribe to one or both newsletters, click on “Not Subscribed? Sign Up Here” in the left hand panel.

Can’t find Dr. Pelligrino’s newest book
I found the article [on “Why weight gain is a problem with Fibro, and what to do about it,” featuring an excerpt from Dr. Pelligrino’s newest book, Fibromyalgia: Up Close and Personal] very informative and would like to buy the book. Your website directed me to Amazon.com where there is only one book available and it is used for the price of $99.00!! I would think these things would be checked out before recommending a book that is out of print & unavailable. – Marsha

Note: Thank you so much for pointing out the supply situation, and sorry for your inconvenience! This book came out just last year, but so many readers requested it that, until a new print run is scheduled, the publisher – www.Anadem.com – is essentially sold out and even Dr. Pellegrino’s practice at the Ohio Rehab Center (phone 330/498-9865) has only a limited number of copies left on hand.
