The data pertaining to Irish specimens sent to the
Lyme disease Laboratory at Charing Cross Hospital since 1986 is presented and discussed. In the period up to June 1990, 484 specimens were tested, 14% of these were positive by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay or indirect immunofluorescent assay. Only 13 of these were confirmed as positive by immunoblotting.
