ME/CFS reporter Mindy Kitei attended the Sep 7-8 First International XMRV Conference at NIH headquarters, and has begun to post summaries of the featured poster presentations on her website – www.cfscentral.com.
First up is the presentation by Dr. Paul Cheney, MD, PhD,* on tests of his own patients – “Detection of XMRV in a National Practice Specializing Exclusively in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” – who included 47 individuals hailing from 24 US states, Canada, and Australia.
Read Mindy's summary of his diagnostic criteria, XMRV findings, and other interesting stats regarding:
• XMRV test results and health conditions in the patients’ family and non-family ‘exposure controls.’
• The study subjects' overlapping conditions in addition to ME/CFS,
• And their cardiac abnormalities/potential implications.
* Dr. Cheney directs the Cheney Clinic in Asheville, NC, and has specialized in ME/CFS patient management and research since his involvement as a local physician, along with Dr. Dan Peterson, in the 1984-87 Incline Village, Nevada outbreak.
