National Trial of Fast Flu ID Test Set to BeginThis large U.S. study will evaluate the fluID Rapid Influenza Test’s accuracy in diagnosing various influenza A and influenza B subtypes in individuals presenting with signs and symptoms of flu-like illness.

The study will give the rapid flu test free to a target cohort of 1,300 patients across the U.S. And, to collect comparative data vs. traditional testing, a virus culture test will also be run for each patient.

Currently the completion date is set for May 2009, and “Prospective Evaluation of the Fluid Rapid Influenza Test” ID NCT00826709. As of Feb 16, perhaps reflecting emerging influenza activity, four testing locations with e-mail links have been posted in Louisiana, Utah, and Wisconsin.

If and when you or a family member develop three or more of the flu-like symptoms listed there, you may want to visit the trial site to see if there’s a testing center near you.

Subjects should present to an investigative site within four days of symptom onset, and will be asked to sign a consent form for self or child before testing.
