PBS Special Brings H.O.P.E. to IBS and Heartburn Sufferers

TAMPA, FL — (MARKET WIRE) — 03/10/2006 — After suffering from persistent migraine headaches, chronic fatigue syndrome, hormonal problems and liver complications due to hepatitis, Brenda Watson decided to take charge of her health with food.

“Like most people, I was eating the standard American diet and taking antibiotics every time I got sick, but my health kept deteriorating,” says Watson, author of, “The H.O.P.E. Formula: The Ultimate Health Secret.” “Then, I finally got sick and tired of being sick and tired.”

When doctors couldn’t pinpoint the problem, Watson began exploring her health issues on her own. After several years of changing her diet to a more organic one, adding supplementation and monitoring her body’s response, she discovered that digestive issues were at the core of all her other health maladies. The success she experienced with her renewed health fueled her passion to help others.

“Changing my diet changed my life,” says Watson, a naturopathic doctor, who has spent the past 15 years as a licensed colon therapist and successfully launched five colon therapy clinics in Florida, helping people with a multitude of digestive disorders. “I want to get digestive problems out in the open so people can get help. Most Americans are literally dying from embarrassment because they are too embarrassed to discuss what’s going on in the bathroom with their doctor.”

Millions of Americans suffer from digestive disorders. More than 65 million have chronic heartburn and over 58 million have irritable bowl syndrome (IBS), the second most cited reason for missed work behind the common cold. Americans spend more than $120 billion per year on digestive problems making it the country’s most prevalent and expensive disease.

Watson believes that the proliferation of other health problems including arthritis, diabetes and lupus could have its start in your gut. In her new book, “The H.O.P.E. Formula,” Watson describes a simple four-part solution she calls H.O.P.E, which includes a diet high in fiber, omega-3 oils, probiotics and digestive enzymes, that can help you get on the right path for improved health.

You can hear more about Watson’s personal story and the secret of, “The H.O.P.E. Formula,” on WEDU-TV (PBS) in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market, on March 15 and 22. Go to http://www.hopeformula.com for more show times and dates.
