Pregabalin Improves Pain and Fatigue Symptoms in Patients With Fibromyalgia
Pregabalin appears to be effective and safe in treating patients with fibromyalgia, according to new clinical trial findings. It may also improve sleep quality, fatigue, and increase quality of life, research suggests. Pregabalin is a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analogue with antiepileptic, analgesic, and anxiolytic activity.
Ciguatera Toxin and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Should You Be Tested?
Gail Kansky of an association for CFS writes, “Ciguatera is a fish toxin but until all research is complete, we don’t know if this is the exact same entity as ciguatera toxin. We do know that all tests for ciguatera toxin come up positive in those with CFS that we’ve heard from thus far and are far higher than those seen in acute ciguatera poisoning.”
Fresh Approach to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Urged
The BBC News recently reported that patients with chronic fatigue syndrome or ME should receive both medical and psychological treatment. According to Dr. Richard Sykes, author of the report and a consultant to Action for ME, a “whole person” approach is needed. He said this involved viewing ME “as a physical illness which can be influenced, as other physical illnesses, by psychological and social factors.”

RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT: CLA
A new study suggests supplementing the diet with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) may lead to better weight control and disease management in diabetics. Researchers at Ohio State University found that higher levels of this fatty acid in the bloodstream translated into lower levels of leptin, a hormone thought to regulate fat levels. Scientists think that high leptin levels may play a role in obesity, one of the biggest risk factors for adult-onset diabetes. To read about this new research, click on the link below:
