The Pain Doctor Is In is a foundation-funded educational site dedicated to helping and empowering pain sufferers. Directed by a board of top U.S. pain specialists, is a major source of pain-management education and information for physicians and other caregivers. But it also offers a set of tools for patients searching for help with their pain.

Ask the Pain Doctor

At Ask the Pain Doctor, you can ask a question about your pain or pain therapies & medications, and obtain general advice (not a diagnosis) from a practicing pain specialist.

There is also a searchable archive of past questions and answers, arranged by topic. Read some of the Q&As under “Fibromyalgia,” for example, to see how detailed and specific the questions may be.

Pain Specialist & Clinic Locator by State and Country

Pain specialists generally work out of private or hospital/university treatment centers. On the Pain Clinics page, you can search for pain centers by state, Canadian province, and country. A search in New Jersey, for example, pulled up 115 pain center/specialist links, in alphabetical order by town, from Absecon to West Orange.

Pain Support Resources

These resources include:

  • A message board where patients, caregivers, and professionals may exchange information on pain and pain management. (No legal advice or referrals.)
  • Links to drug assistance programs you and/or your healthcare provider might contact for information.
  • Printable copies of different pain assessment forms, tools, surveys, rating scales, and more.
  • Links to the websites of pain-related support groups.
