Exercising in warm water is especially good for stiff, achy muscles. Warm water helps relax muscles and decreases pain, and the water also supports your body, putting less stress on hips, knees and spine. You can do warm-water exercises while standing in shoulder- to chest-high water or while sitting in shallow water. In deeper water, use a flotation device to keep you afloat. A water exercise program designed for people with fibromyalgia is Let’s Get F.I.T., produced by the Arthritis Foundation.
