You can turn your medical relationships into partnerships by taking a more active role in managing your arthritis. You can do this by:

* Working closely with your health-care team, taking part in the decision-making process and not being a silent partner or passive participant

* Being honest with your health-care team about the impact arthritis has on your daily life

* Learning as much as you can about arthritis and how it affects you

* Understanding and following the treatment program that you and your health-care team develop

* Being persistent and asking questions if information is unclear

* Keeping track of your progress and the effects of your medications and other therapies

* Asking about other treatment options

* Continuing to interact with your health-care team

* Above all, it means deciding to do as much as you can to help yourself.
