Cholesterol is a type of fat which is present only in animals. No plant or plant product contains cholesterol. Cholesterol is not a useless or harmful substance without any redeeming features. Nearly all animal and human cells have some cholesterol as a component of their cell wall or internal machinery. Without sufficient cholesterol, animal life could not exist. But as with blood sugar, calcium, and sodium, it is the excessive levels of blood cholesterol that are harmful.
