Tip of the Day

All of us at Pro Health wish you and your family a healthy and Happy New Year!

If you are like thousands of other Americans, one of your New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight and get in better shape. And there are a number of supplements available that you might consider including as part of your overall diet and exercise program to accomplish your fitness goals.

Have you heard about 5-HTP? 5-HTP stands for 5-Hydroxy L-Tryptophan. In several clinical trials, dosages of between 600 mg and 900 mg of 5-HTP led to weight losses averaging 3.1 to 3.7 pounds over periods of 5 to 6 weeks. At first glance, that may seem like an insignificant amount of weight – until you consider that the losses were achieved without dieting.

If you do cut calories, then 5-HTP may help you stay the course. When diets restricted to 1,200 calories daily were combined with supplementation, weight loss was greater – between 6.8 and 7.3 pounds over 5 to 6 weeks. Before you begin any weight loss program, it is a good idea to talk it over with your health care professional to make sure you will be meeting all of your body’s needs.
