Tip of the Day

Most people spend approximately 90 percent of their time in interior environments – homes, workplaces, schools, and shopping, recreation, and transit spaces. There are two major classes of environmental pollutants, chemicals and heavy metals. Chemical sensitivity is a growing health issue for many Americans. For example, 16% of respondents to one survey reported being “allergic or unusually sensitive to everyday chemicals,” and more than 6% said that they were diagnosed with environmentally caused illnesses or multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS). In fact, indoor air pollution from what are known as “sick” buildings may be a more insidious problem than outdoor air pollution.
