Remember how, when you were a child, your mother would offer you a glass of warm milk to calm you down and help you get to sleep? Well, it seems mom was on to something. Scientists at Nancy University in France set out to uncover the science behind this "folk wisdom." They hypothesized that one of the amino acid compounds in milk protein was responsible for milk's calming effects. And in a series of laboratory and animal tests, they confirmed it: The milk peptide as1-CnTH eases stress and reduces anxiety just as well as diazepam.
