Tip of the Day

If you or a family member has allergies or asthma, take a careful look at the ways you can improve your environment. In addition to dust covers, consider:

–Washing sheets weekly in hot water

–Using a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to vacuum furniture and curtains

–Using dehumidifiers to make homes less dust mite friendly (regularly assess and clean the water collection area for any mold)

–Eliminating rugs and carpets and, if you can switch, to hardwood floors or choose a home with hardwood floors

–Limiting the use of drapes and curtains or vacuum, and wash them frequently

–Purchasing blinds

–Having someone who is not allergic, clean out moldy/dusty areas

–Using an air conditioner during the summer and keeping windows closed as much as possible during your allergy season

–Drying clothes inside if you have a pollen allergy
