Last year, the National Academy of Sciences dumped the standard advice – 30 minutes of exercise five days a week – and recommended an hour of physical activity every day. However, “Any exercise is better than nothing, and 30 minutes is good for cardiovascular health,” says Rena Wing of Brown University. “But weight loss maintenance may require a larger calorie expenditure.”
