Special safety precautions can be taken in the bathroom to help prevent accidents or confusion. Mirrors, high-gloss surfaces, and glass can frighten a person with Alzheimer’s disease. One step you can take is to cover mirrors to reduce the person’s feelings of confusion. Keep razor blades locked up or switch to an electric shaver. To reduce the chance of an electric shock, remove all remote electrical appliances from the bathroom. And to prevent falls, use such devices as grab bars, bath seats and commode chairs.
