Just as keeping physically fit can protect your body from injury, staying mentally active has been shown to ward off Alzheimer’s disease. Cities with active theater and music scenes, plenty of museums and even cafes that encourage patrons to relax with a book or crossword puzzle may help protect against Alzheimer’s.
Lifetime learning isn’t just about preventing Alzheimer’s, though. Studies show that people who stay actively involved in educational, social and cultural activities report less pain and depression than people who check out at retirement.
