Cranial work [craniosacral therapy] is subtle enough that it doesn't create resistance in the tissues and allows the practitioner to work gently in the damaged areas. Tissues that are in chronic pain or are hypersensitive resist heavy-duty stretching or exercise if they haven't gradually built up to it. But because craniosacral therapy is a low-impact treatment that can also affect the body's neurological function, it seems to have the ability to calm a hypersensitized system, especially in the case of people with FM or CFS. The craniosacral practitioner can provide a greater range of motion and make a greater impact without the stress to the patient's system that strenuous exercise would cause.
