If you are participating in a weight lifting program, don’t forget about proper breathing techniques. It is important to exhale as you lift the weight and inhale as you lower the weight, and do not hold you breath. Failing to breathe can raise your blood pressure as you lift the weight and will reduce the blood flow to muscles. It can also increase the risk of hernias and other injuries. If you can’t get the correct rhythm when you first start, don’t worry. Make sure you are breathing throughout the movement. As you become more comfortable, you will be able to incorporate the correct breathing rhythm.
