If you take opioids to help you manage chronic pain, you should know that adverse side effects are very common with these drugs. Persons taking these drugs should be monitored for excessive sedation, concentration problems, interference with driving, myoclonus (muscle jerks), and pruritis (itching). Side effects can be minimized by starting treatment with a low dose and slowly increasing it.
