Tip of the Day

Just as some foods can be used to create a calm feeling during times when you experience great stress or anxiety, other foods can create the opposite effect, making you feel attentive and responsive. Foods rich in protein, like turkey, tuna, or chicken, are also rich in an amino acid called tyrosine. Tyrosine boosts levels of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine. Neurotransmitters are the chemicals that send messages from cell to cell. Sophisticated research by Dr. Judith Wurtman at MIT has revealed that people are more alert when the brain is producing the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine. The neurotransmitter serotonin is associated with less anxiety and increased drowsiness. (Source: The Fibromyalgia Handbook – A 7-Step Program to Halt and Even Reverse Fibromyalgia, by Harris H.
