Tip of the Day

If you have FM/CFS, Dr. Howard Smith advises, "Be sure your shoes are not adding to your pain. For pain in the feet or ankles, shoes can give extra support and make walking easier…So what kind of shoes are best? In a comprehensive study published in The Lancet, researchers reported that high heeled shoes with chunky heels are just as bad on your knees as stiletto heels, increasing pressure on the inside of the knee. I recommend that patients change to a sturdy flat shoe in order to decrease knee pain and be active again. Studies show that most women wear their shoes too small, which can greatly increase pressure on the feet and ankles, resulting in damage. To end pain, you need to wear shoes that support your weight and yet don't put abnormal pressure on joints. When your weight distribution is improved, excess forces on the knees and hips are reduced and pain is improved." (Source: The Women's Guide to Ending Pain: An 8-Step Program, by Howard S.
