This trial is being conducted at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. The researchers note that most FM patients have sleep problems, which may worsen their pain, fatigue, mood, or energy status. The placebo-controlled study (ClinicalTrials.gov ID#: NCT00321451) will measure the impact of sessions with a sleep therapist on sleep quality and other symptoms.

Selected subjects will receive complete FM and sleep-related screening examinations – followed, if their diagnosis is confirmed, by usual FM care (medical advice and prescriptions) plus either a course of sessions with a sleep psychologist designed to eliminate factors that disrupt sleep, or “placebo” therapy.
