WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG ME SUFFERERS
ART EXHIBITION in AUGUST
As part of its Education Outreach Programme the Washington Gallery, in conjunction with The Young ME Sufferers (Tymes) Trust, ran an art workshop for young people with ME who could not attend school. In January 2005 the Trust invited its members in and around Cardiff, Wales, to take part in this unique project.
Photographer Suzanne Greenslade, who herself has had ME and has exhibited her work internationally, including in the US, visited the six participants in their homes.
They were encouraged to make a ‘visual diary’ about how ME has made them feel and how it has changed their lives.
The workshop was a chance for them to let out frustrations and give voice to years of illness and isolation.
The finished pieces will be on exhibit at the Washington Gallery in Penarth, just outside Cardiff, Wales, from 23rd August – 1st September. This workshop was funded by a grant from The Arts Council of Wales.
Do you have a relative in the area or are you planning to visit this summer?
Everyone would be delighted to receive visitors at the Gallery to view these young people’s work.
