What is NMN?
Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is a nucleotide derived from ribose and nicotinamide. Like nicotinamide riboside(NR), NMN is a derivative of niacin (vitamin B3), and humans have enzymes that can use NMN to generate nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). NMN is found naturally in avocado, broccoli, cabbage, and edamame.
Can NMN be absorbed into your cells?
Recent research shows that there's a specific pathway in the intestine where NMN is directly absorbed. Some theorize that NMN needs to be converted to NR to be absorbed, but regardless of the mechanism of action everyone agrees that both NR and NMN, when taken orally, boost NAD+ levels.
