Starting this month and for 15 months, the ME/CFS Biobank project housed at London’s Royal Free Hospital will collect blood samples of “clinically well-characterised” ME/CFS patients to support a more-standardized basis for research to determine causes of ME/CFS. Principal researchers are Drs. Eliana Lacerda and Luis Nacul at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
The Biobank will begin by collecting blood samples only from a group of patients currently enrolled in the UK’s National ME/CFS Register. Then if extended funding is available, the Bank hopes to begin accepting blood samples from other donors by late 2012.
