Using methylcobalamin to treat Alzheimer's disease.

  [ Not Yet Rated ]   [ 1 Comment ]
By Report by the Life Extension Foundation • www.ProHealth.com • August 1, 1998

A study in Clinical Therapeutics (1992 May;14(3):426-437) showed that the intravenous administration of large doses of methylcobalamin to Alzheimer's patients improved the patients' intellectual functions such as memory, emotions and communication with other people. The scientists concluded that methylcobalamin is a safe and effective treatment for psychiatric disorders in patients with Alzheimer-type dementia.

This is the only clinical study the Foundation could find on using methylcobalamin to treat Alzheimer's disease. It could be that 40 to 80 mg a day of sublingually administered methylcobalamin would be an effective adjuvant (assisting) Alzheimer's therapy.

Methylcobalamin to Treat Alzhiemer's disease
Posted by: jcstras45
Jan 5, 2012
My mother passed away in 1995 from complications due to Alzhiemer's disease...or so they say. After having been a care giver for my fiance' for the past four years and having witnessed the mis diagnosing on the part of countless "Doctors" in both Texas and Arizona, I finally took matters into my own hands and began treating my Fiance' with Methylcobalamin for her symptoms which are too numerous to list here. The most serious ones were the deterioration of her mental capabilities, the loss of the ability to walk, and an acute case of Neuropathy in both of her feet and legs. After approximatly one month of treatment of 3mg of Methylcobalamin per day, her symptoms just about dissappeared. Unfortunatly, the source that I usually obtain our B12 from took their time shipping the supply and all of her symptoms have returned. I was giving her liquid B12 before..Now she is taking the sublingual tablets. She has been taking them now for about three days. We are hopeful that they will be as effective as the liquid sublingual B12 that she used previously.
