In 1981, Carol Kapuszcak became environmental ill and could no long work. After several years of being misdiagnosed, Carol found an environmental specialist who was able to help her identify the symptoms of a medical condition known as Multiple Chemical Sensitivities MCS.
As Carol's healthy gradually improved, she organized a support group in Western New York so that others wouldn't have to suffer with MCS the way she did. The group quickly expanded as physicians began referring patients to her group and MCS sufferers called in from all over the country.
In 1991, Sensitive to a Toxic Environment (STATE), a non-profit organization was born. The STATE foundation is dedicated to the prevention and eventual elimination of Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. Since its founding, the Foundation ahs provided vital information to physicians and support organizations and has identified safe products and suppliers. Helpful "Lifestyle" booklets provide guidance on how to detoxify all aspect of your environment. As a result of its work, the STATE Foundation is able to ease a portion of the financial burden and frustration for many suffering MCS.
